Pocket Passion

In my opinion, people should [as a rule] carry tiny notebooks or sketchbooks everywhere. It should be a common practice. And I don't just mean artists. Yep, it's an analog concept in a digital age. But hear me out...

Tiny notebooks and sketchbooks are curiosity keepers. Reasonably small, they fit into a pocket or a purse, and they are the perfect place to capture thoughts and ideas, things noted on the go for further exploration later. I'm fully aware that phones offer note apps. I make use of list, sticky note, and sketch apps myself.

But I still believe in the tiny physical blank book. The kind you can touch, turn pages, shove things like paper clips and post its into, and experience on a tactile level. They would be used for things like taking notes, copying info, making rubbings on things, even collecting stamps or stickers.

It's a similar notion to keeping a journal, with the same virtue: flexing the mental muscles and potential for productive thought, growth, and inspiration.
As someone who makes lists and scribbles with a stylus on my phone, I STILL insist on tiny portable books. But then, I'm in the habit of ensuring there is a sketchbook
or scrap paper available to me at all times, or whenever possible. Might need to do a doodle, spit out some gum, make a paper rose, or blot some fiery red lipstick on the fly. Is that weird? I'm an artist, so it's okay. But I want you to consider it. Give it a try. You might thank me later!
This week I'll share a peek at a sketch inside one of these over on my sketch blog- it'll be linked here.
